Surfboard is a well-known brand specializing in high-performance cable modems and gateways, originally established under General Instrument. For decades, it has been a staple in home networking, providing hardware that facilitates high-speed internet access via cable infrastructure.

The brand has a complex ownership history involving several transitions between major tech giants. After General Instrument was acquired by Motorola, the Surfboard name became synonymous with Motorola's broadband hardware division. In 2013, ARRIS Group acquired this division from Google (which had briefly owned Motorola Mobility), bringing the Surfboard line into its portfolio.

In 2019, CommScope acquired ARRIS, making Surfboard a key part of CommScope's Home Networks business segment. Today, Surfboard remains a leading consumer brand for retail modem products, with manufacturing taking place across various global facilities to serve international telecommunications markets.
