Gammel Dansk Bitter

Gammel Dansk is a classic Danish bitter liqueur that is synonymous with Danish culture, traditionally served at breakfast, festive celebrations, and anniversaries. First launched in 1964 by De Danske Spritfabrikker in Roskilde, Denmark, the recipe is a closely guarded secret consisting of 29 different herbs, spices, and flowers including rowanberry, anise, ginger, and nutmeg.

Historically produced in Aalborg and Dalby, the manufacturing process was relocated to Norway in 2015 following corporate restructuring. This move marked a significant shift for the brand, move which stirred national debate in its home country. Despite the change in production location, the original recipe and brand identity remain core to its Danish heritage.

The brand is currently owned by Anora Group, a leading Nordic brand house for spirits and wines. Anora was formed through the merger of Altia and Arcus in 2021. Today, Gammel Dansk remains one of the most recognizable spirits in Northern Europe, maintaining its status as an iconic staple of Nordic drinking culture.
