De Beukelaer biscuits

De Beukelaer is a historic biscuit brand with deep roots in Belgian craftsmanship. Founded in 1850 by Edouard de Beukelaer in Antwerp, the brand is famously credited with the invention of the sandwich biscuit, most notably the 'Prinzen Rolle' (Prince's Roll), which was named in honor of the future King Leopold II.

Today, the brand's European operations are managed by Griesson - de Beukelaer, a joint venture formed in 1999 following a merger with the German company Griesson and a division of Danone. The company remains a family-owned entity, with major production facilities located in Polch, Kahla, and Wurzen, Germany.

A separate branch of the family heritage exists in the United States. In 1984, Peter De Beukelaer moved to Mississippi to establish the De Beukelaer Corporation, which produces the well-known Pirouline rolled wafers. While the European brand is headquartered in Germany, the family legacy continues through these distinct but culturally linked organizations across both continents.
