New Balance is a globally recognized American athletic brand with a rich history focused on comfort and performance. Founded in 1906 by William J. Riley in Boston, Massachusetts, the company initially produced orthopedic arch supports. Legend says Riley was inspired by the perfect balance of chickens in his yard, leading him to design arch supports with three points of contact.

Known for its plush cushioning and stable ride, it features an engineered mesh upper and specialized foam technology. While New Balance is famous for its "Made in USA" and "Made in UK" premium lines, the bulk of its global production, including many technical running models, is currently manufactured in specialized facilities across Vietnam, Indonesia, and China.
Unlike many of its major competitors, New Balance has remained a privately held company. It was acquired in 1972 by Jim Davis on the day of the Boston Marathon and remains under the ownership of the Davis family. This private structure has allowed the brand to maintain a unique focus on local manufacturing hubs while growing into a multibillion-dollar global powerhouse.
