Verkade San Francisco Biscuits

Verkade is a quintessential Dutch biscuit and chocolate brand founded in 1886 by Ericus Gerhardus Verkade in Zaandam, Netherlands. Originally established as a steam bread and rusk factory, the brand became a household name for its wide variety of biscuits, including the 'San Francisco' variety shown here, which is a thin, crunchy biscuit with a light sugary coating.

While the brand maintains its deep Dutch heritage and continues to manufacture products at its historic location in Zaandam, its ownership has transitioned through several international hands. In 1990, the company merged with United Biscuits. Following the acquisition of United Biscuits in 2014, Verkade became a part of pladis, a global snacking company. pladis is the snacks division of Yıldız Holding, a major Turkish multinational. Today, Verkade operates as a key brand under the pladis umbrella, combining traditional Dutch recipes with global distribution and corporate management based in London and Istanbul.
