Salomon Gore-Tex trail running shoes

Salomon is an iconic outdoor sports brand founded in 1947 by François Salomon and his family in Annecy, France. Initially a workshop producing metal saw blades and ski edges, the company evolved into a global leader in mountain sports, pioneering ski bindings and later expanding into technical footwear and apparel.

Today, Salomon's high-performance footwear, particularly its Gore-Tex lined trail running and hiking shoes, is primarily manufactured in Vietnam and China to leverage advanced footwear production ecosystems. However, in line with modern sustainability and speed-to-market initiatives, Salomon opened the 'Advanced Shoe Factory 4.0' in Ardoix, France, in 2022. This facility uses automated and robotic technologies to bring a portion of shoe production back to the brand's home country.

Ownership of the brand has shifted through major corporate acquisitions over the decades. It was purchased by Adidas in 1997 before being sold to the Finnish sports conglomerate Amer Sports in 2005. In 2019, Amer Sports (and consequently Salomon) was acquired by a consortium led by the Chinese sportswear giant ANTA Sports. As of 2026, Salomon remains a flagship brand within the Amer Sports portfolio, operating as a subsidiary under the ultimate ownership of ANTA Sports.
