In 1988, the brand was acquired by the Swiss multinational Nestlé. Despite this change in ultimate ownership, Perugina maintains deep roots in its homeland. The product is manufactured at the San Sisto plant in Perugia, Italy, which serves as a central hub for the brand's production and even houses a professional chocolate-making school. The packaging emphasizes this heritage through the 'Scuola del Cioccolato' (Chocolate School) logo and mentions the San Sisto manufacturing site.
