The company was formed in 2020 through the merger of Jacobs Douwe Egberts (JDE) and Peet's Coffee. Its roots trace back to 1753 with the founding of Douwe Egberts in the Netherlands, while Peet's Coffee was established in 1966 in Berkeley, California, by Alfred Peet, often credited with starting the specialty coffee revolution in the United States.

In a significant industry shift announced in late 2025 and progressing through 2026, Keurig Dr Pepper (KDP) reached a definitive agreement to acquire JDE Peet's. This merger aims to create a global coffee powerhouse by combining the Keurig single-serve platform with JDE Peet's extensive international brand portfolio, which includes household names like L'OR, Jacobs, Tassimo, and Senseo. Following the completion of the acquisition in early 2026, the company plans to separate into two independent entities: 'Beverage Co.,' focusing on North American soft drinks, and 'Global Coffee Co.,' which will become the world's largest pure-play coffee business.

Manufacturing for JDE Peet's products takes place across a vast network of facilities worldwide to serve its presence in over 100 markets. While the corporate identity is deeply rooted in Dutch and American coffee traditions, the physical production of ground coffee, beans, and tea is distributed across various regions to ensure efficient local and international supply.
