KEF LS50 Meta Hi-Fi Speaker

KEF is a prestigious British manufacturer of high-end audio products, including loudspeakers, subwoofers, and wireless audio systems. Founded in 1961 by Raymond Cooke, a former BBC electrical engineer, the company was initially headquartered in a Nissen hut on the grounds of Kent Engineering & Foundry (from which the name KEF is derived) in Tovil, Maidstone, Kent.

Historically, KEF gained global recognition for its innovative use of materials and engineering, notably its partnership with the BBC for monitor designs and the invention of the Uni-Q point-source driver array. While the research, development, and high-end flagship manufacturing (such as the Blade and Muon series) continue to take place in the United Kingdom, the vast majority of its consumer-facing products, including the popular LS50 and LS60 series, are manufactured in specialized facilities in China to optimize global distribution.

In 1992, KEF was acquired by Gold Peak Technology Group Limited (formerly known as Gold Peak Industries Holdings Limited), a Hong Kong-based multinational group. Under Gold Peak's ownership, KEF has maintained its reputation for acoustic excellence while expanding its technological reach into the active and wireless speaker markets. The ultimate ownership remains with Gold Peak, which is headquartered in Hong Kong.
