E. D. Smith is a heritage brand with a legacy dating back to 1882 in the Niagara Peninsula of Ontario, Canada. Founded by Ernest D'Israeli Smith, the company initially focused on fruit cultivation and high-quality preserves. Over more than a century, it evolved into one of the most recognizable Canadian brands for jams, pie fillings, and maple syrups, synonymous with home-cooked quality.

Today, the brand is owned by Winland Foods, Inc., a major private-label and branded food company. While the brand maintains its Canadian roots and a significant manufacturing presence in Winona, Ontario, its production network now spans across North America under its current corporate structure. The brand has transitioned from a family-run enterprise to being part of a large-scale international food manufacturing portfolio.

The ultimate ownership shifted through several acquisitions, most notably being acquired by TreeHouse Foods in 2007, and subsequently becoming part of Winland Foods following a divestiture and organizational restructuring involving private equity management. This evolution has allowed E. D. Smith products to reach a broader market while maintaining the original brand identity established in the 19th century.
