Farbwerke Hoechst Chemicals

Farbwerke Hoechst, originally founded in 1863 in Frankfurt, Germany, was one of the world's most prominent chemical and pharmaceutical companies for over a century. Known for its innovations in dyes and medicines, it was a founding member of IG Farben before being reconstituted as an independent entity after World War II.

Following a series of mergers in the late 1990s, the company's pharmaceutical legacy largely merged with Rhône-Poulenc to form Aventis, which subsequently became part of Sanofi. Today, the legacy of Farbwerke Hoechst is distributed among several global entities, primarily Sanofi for pharmaceuticals and Celanese for specialty chemicals. The Hoechst brand itself has largely been retired from industrial use, though the 'Hoechst' name remains iconic in the history of German science and industry.
