Ladybird web browser

Ladybird.org represents the official home of the Ladybird web browser, a revolutionary open-source project building a new browser engine from scratch. Unlike most modern browsers that rely on Google's Chromium or Apple's WebKit, Ladybird is a truly independent implementation of web standards. It originated in 2022 as a spin-off from the SerenityOS hobbyist operating system, founded by developer Andreas Kling.

In 2024, the project transitioned into a formal non-profit structure with the launch of the Ladybird Browser Initiative, based in the United States. This transition was accelerated by a $1 million seed donation from Chris Wanstrath, the co-founder of GitHub. The development is a global effort, with a community of contributors from around the world writing the code in C++ and Rust. The project is specifically designed to be free from corporate influence, refusing monetization through default search deals, user tracking, or advertising, and relying entirely on individual and corporate sponsorships from entities like Shopify and Cloudflare.
