Duracell is one of the world's most recognizable brands in the portable power industry. The brand's journey began in the early 1920s through a partnership between scientist Samuel Ruben and businessman Philip Rogers Mallory. Originally operating as the P.R. Mallory Company, the brand name 'Duracell' (a portmanteau of 'durable cell') was officially introduced in 1964. Over the decades, the brand has changed ownership several times, moving from Kraft Foods to Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, then to Gillette, and eventually becoming part of Procter & Gamble (P&G) in 2005.
In 2016, Duracell was acquired by Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway in a multi-billion dollar deal, providing the brand with a permanent home under one of the world's largest holding companies. While Duracell maintains significant manufacturing facilities in the United States (notably in Georgia and Tennessee) for its alkaline batteries, specialty cells like the Lithium 2032 coin batteries shown in the image are predominantly manufactured in China or Indonesia to serve global markets.
In the Netherlands, the brand is managed through local subsidiaries that handle distribution and marketing for the European market, with major logistics hubs located in Belgium to ensure a steady supply of high-performance power solutions to Dutch consumers and retailers.
