The Seiko G757-5020 Sports 100 is an iconic digital watch famously worn by Roger Moore as James Bond in the 1983 film Octopussy. In the movie, the watch features a fictional homing device used to track a hidden transmitter in a Fabergé egg, which cemented its status as one of the most memorable 'gadget' watches in cinematic history. Its distinctive 'horseshoe' bezel and multi-functional LCD display, which includes a digital tachymeter-style circular display on the top left, made it a cutting-edge piece of technology for its time.
Manufactured in Japan by Seiko during the early 1980s, the watch was part of a broader G757 series. Despite its fame following the movie release, the specific 5020 model was actually only produced for a short window between 1980 and 1982. This limited production run, combined with its 007 pedigree, has turned it into a highly prized collector's item today. The watch features multiple modes including a timer, alarm, dual time, and stopwatch, all housed in a rugged stainless steel case with a matching bracelet.
Ownership of the Seiko brand lies with the Seiko Group Corporation, a Japanese conglomerate with a heritage dating back to 1881. Founded by Kintarō Hattori in Tokyo, Seiko has been a pioneer in watchmaking, famously launching the world's first quartz watch in 1969. Today, the Seiko Group remains one of the few fully integrated watch manufacturers in the world, developing and producing all components in-house, from micro-batteries to mechanical hairsprings.
