Edelrid is a renowned German brand with a history dating back to 1863, when it was founded by Julius Edelmann and Carl Ridder in Isny im Allgäu. The company is a pioneer in the climbing industry, credited with inventing the modern 'kernmantle' rope in 1953, which remains the global standard for climbing ropes today. This invention revolutionized mountaineering by providing a durable core protected by a braided sheath.

Today, Edelrid continues to manufacture its technical ropes, slings, and certain high-end harnesses at its original facility in Isny, Germany, representing about 60% of its value chain. Other hardware and textile components are produced through specialized partners in various locations, including Asia. Since 2006, the brand has been part of the VAUDE Group, owned by Albrecht von Dewitz, ensuring it remains an independently managed German entity dedicated to sustainable and high-performance vertical sports equipment.
