Brand Origin

Quality Street was created in Halifax, West Yorkshire, England in 1936 by Harold Mackintosh of the British confectionery company John Mackintosh & Sons. Mackintosh aimed to make premium chocolates and toffees affordable and accessible to working-class families by utilizing pioneering wrapping technology.

Manufacturing

To this day, Quality Street chocolates and toffees sold in the United Kingdom are primarily produced at Nestlé's historic confectionery manufacturing factory in Halifax, West Yorkshire, where the brand was originally born.

Ownership

John Mackintosh & Sons merged with Rowntree's in 1969 to form Rowntree Mackintosh. In 1988, Swiss multinational food and drink conglomerate Nestlé acquired Rowntree Mackintosh, bringing Quality Street under its global portfolio. The brand is managed locally by Nestlé UK Ltd.
