The Whitworths brand was originally founded in 1886 by three brothers—John, Herbert, and Arthur Whitworth—in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, initially starting as flour millers before branching into dried fruits, nuts, and seeds.

In 2017, Whitworths was acquired by the Anatolia Agricultural Products group (Anatolia Tarım Ürünleri), a major dried fruit producer and processor based in Turkey. Whitworths continues to operate out of Irthlingborough in Northamptonshire, UK, where imported dates are processed and packed for retail across the UK.
