SIG Sauer Firearms and Accessories

SIG Sauer traces its roots back to Schweizerische Industrie-Gesellschaft (SIG), founded in 1853 in Neuhausen am Rheinfall, Switzerland. To expand its small arms manufacturing and navigate Swiss export restrictions, SIG formed a partnership in the 1970s with German arms maker J.P. Sauer & Sohn in Eckernförde, giving rise to the SIG Sauer brand renowned worldwide for military, law enforcement, and civilian firearms.

In 2000, SIG sold its firearms division to the German private holding company L&O Holding (Lüke & Ortmeier Gruppe). Over the following decades, production shifted significantly towards the United States. In late 2020, the historic German manufacturing site in Eckernförde was officially closed, leaving SIG Sauer Inc., headquartered in Newington, New Hampshire, USA, as the primary operational and manufacturing core of the brand. Today, weapons and accessories distributed under the SIG Sauer name in Germany and globally are predominantly engineered and produced by the American subsidiary.

Ultimate corporate control remains with the German industrial holding group L&O Holding GmbH & Co. KG, owned by Michael Lüke and Thomas Ortmeier. While SIG Combibloc (packaging) shares the historic Swiss 'SIG' acronym, it is an entirely independent company with no relation to the modern firearms brand.
