Originally founded in the early 20th century in the United States by George Dudley, the Canadian manufacturing rights and subsidiary operations grew into a staple brand within Canada.

Over the decades, Dudley's Canadian lock division was held under companies such as United-Carr Canada Ltd., manufacturing these robust combination locks domestically in Ontario, Canada (as stamped directly on the back casing of vintage and classic models). Later, Dudley became part of Master Lock Company LLC, which operates as a key security and safety division under Fortune Brands Innovations, Inc. based in the United States. Modern Dudley locks are distributed and marketed across Canada by Master Lock.
