Mirtazapine is a noradrenergic and specific serotonergic antidepressant (NaSSA) commonly prescribed in the United Kingdom to treat moderate to severe depression, anxiety, and related sleep disturbances.

The original innovator compound was developed by the Dutch pharmaceutical company NV Organon in Oss, Netherlands, and was branded under names like Remeron and Zispin. In the UK market, the brand name Zispin became well known alongside various generic formulations. NV Organon was acquired by Schering-Plough in 2007, which subsequently merged with Merck & Co. (MSD outside the United States and Canada) in 2009. In 2021, MSD completed a spinoff of its established brands and women's health portfolio into a standalone global healthcare enterprise named Organon & Co.

While Organon remains the historic brand originator and marketer of the reference branded medicine, generic Mirtazapine in the UK is produced and distributed by several major generic pharmaceutical suppliers, including Teva UK, Accord Healthcare, and Sandoz, with active pharmaceutical ingredients and finished dosage forms manufactured at certified sites across Europe, India, and the United Kingdom.
