VARTA AA Batteries

VARTA is a historic German battery manufacturer founded in 1887 by Adolf Müller under the name Accumulatoren-Fabrik AG (AFA) before adopting the VARTA acronym (Vertrieb, Aufladung, Reparatur Transportabler Akkumulatoren) in 1904.

Over the decades, VARTA grew into a global leader in portable power. The consumer battery business, produced primarily at VARTA's core facility in Ellwangen and Dischingen in Germany, produces reliable alkaline AA and AAA batteries.

In 2020, VARTA AG acquired the VARTA Consumer Batteries business back from Energizer Holdings, reuniting the global brand under VARTA AG. Today, consumer batteries bearing the VARTA logo in European markets such as Spain are manufactured in Germany and owned by VARTA AG, headquartered in Ellwangen, Germany.
