Originally founded in Cornwall, Ontario, in 1981 by Jean-Louis Bellemare, Farm Boy started as a small produce store before expanding into a premier fresh-market supermarket chain across Ontario. In 2018, Empire Company Limited, one of Canada's leading grocery retailers and the parent company of Sobeys, acquired Farm Boy while maintaining its distinct brand identity and line of private-label food products.
