Bernardin Home Canning Products

Bernardin is Canada's premier brand of home canning and food preservation supplies, known extensively for its glass mason jars, sealing discs, metal bands, and pectin products.

The Bernardin brand traces its roots to 1881, when Alfred Bernardin founded the Bernardin Bottle Cap Company in Evansville, Indiana, initially producing metal bottle caps. The company later expanded into metal screw caps and jar lids for food preservation. Over time, Bernardin established itself as the leading home canning name across Canadian households.

Throughout the late 20th century, the home canning industry underwent significant corporate consolidations. Bernardin was acquired by Alltrista Corporation, which later evolved into Jarden Corporation. In 2016, Jarden was acquired by Newell Brands, an American multinational consumer goods corporation based in Atlanta, Georgia. Today, Bernardin operates as part of Newell Brands' portfolio, alongside sister canning brands such as Ball and Kerr. While widely sold and deeply embedded in Canadian culinary tradition, many Bernardin jars and metal closures are manufactured primarily in the United States and other global production facilities.
