Dirt Devil was originally founded in 1905 in Cleveland, Ohio, by Philip Geier under the name P.A. Geier Co., which later became Royal Appliance Manufacturing. The brand became a household name across North America and internationally throughout the 1980s and 1990s, renowned particularly for its lightweight, distinctive red handheld vacuum cleaners featuring patented cyclone systems.
In 2003, Royal Appliance Manufacturing and the Dirt Devil brand were acquired by Techtronic Industries Co. Ltd. (TTI), a multinational power equipment and floorcare giant headquartered in Hong Kong. TTI manages an extensive portfolio of global floorcare brands, including Vax and Hoover (for North America).
In the United Kingdom, Dirt Devil floorcare appliances are sold via major retailers and online channels, supported and distributed through TTI's regional European operations and licensing partnerships. Like most modern floorcare small domestic appliances, manufacturing is primarily carried out in mainland China and Southeast Asia at TTI's advanced production and engineering facilities.
