Scott Sports originated in 1958 in Sun Valley, Idaho, United States, founded by engineer and ski racer Ed Scott, who revolutionized skiing with the invention of the tapered aluminium ski pole. In 1986, the company introduced its first mountain bike, going on to pioneer numerous bicycle innovations including aerodynamic handlebars and lightweight carbon frame technology.

Over the decades, Scott shifted its operational focus to Europe and established its global corporate headquarters in Givisiez, Switzerland. Frame production and manufacturing take place predominantly in specialized factories across Asia (notably Taiwan and China), with final assembly and quality inspection occurring across various international facilities including European distribution hubs.

Since 2015, the South Korean outdoor apparel and gear company Youngone Corporation has held a majority controlling stake in Scott Sports SA. In Switzerland, Scott mountain bikes and sports equipment are distributed directly by the Givisiez-based headquarters company, Scott Sports SA.
