Discover where a brand or product originates
Skullcandy was founded in 2003 by Rick Alden in Park City, Utah, United States. Born out of action sports culture, particularly snowboarding and skateboarding, the brand quickly made a name for itself by combining bold lifestyle styling with accessible, bass-heavy consumer audio gear.
The Crusher line is famous for its sensory bass technology, offering physical haptic feedback alongside audio playback. While early Skullcandy products were entirely proprietary, later collaborative editions and premium releases have incorporated third-party sound profiles and active noise cancellation (ANC).
Like many modern consumer electronics and lifestyle audio brands, Skullcandy designs and engineers its products primarily in the United States while outsourcing device manufacturing and assembly to specialised facilities in China, Vietnam, and other parts of East Asia.
In 2016, Skullcandy was acquired by Mill Road Capital, an American private investment firm based in Greenwich, Connecticut, taking the company private.
