Maredsous Brune is a traditional Belgian abbey ale originating from the Benedictine Abbey of Maredsous, founded in 1872 in the province of Namur, Belgium. While the abbey's monks initially created the recipe following their monastic brewing heritage, commercial production was licensed to external Belgian family brewers to manage growing demand.
Today, Maredsous beers are brewed under license by Duvel Moortgat, a major Belgian independent family-owned brewing company headquartered in Puurs-Sint-Amands, Belgium. Duvel Moortgat brews and bottles Maredsous beers at its facilities in Belgium while adhering to the original monastic recipes and standards, with royalties supporting the Abbey of Maredsous community.
