Piz Buin sunscreen

Piz Buin is a specialized sun care brand that holds a significant place in the history of sun protection. It was founded in 1946 by Franz Greiter, a Swiss chemistry student who developed one of the world's first sun protection products after suffering from sunburn while climbing the Piz Buin mountain on the Swiss-Austrian border. The brand is credited with introducing the Sun Protection Factor (SPF) rating system in the early 1960s, which has since become the global standard for measuring sunscreen efficacy.

Today, Piz Buin is a global brand with a presence in numerous international markets. While its origins are rooted in the Swiss Alps, its manufacturing now takes place in various locations across Europe and North America to serve its global consumer base. The brand focuses on combining advanced sun filter technologies with cosmetic benefits to provide both protection and skin care.

Following a series of corporate acquisitions, Piz Buin became part of the Johnson & Johnson portfolio. In 2023, Johnson & Johnson spun off its consumer health division into a new, independent company called Kenvue. As a result, Piz Buin is now owned and managed by Kenvue, which is headquartered in the United States. Kenvue continues to develop the brand's legacy of sun safety and skin health.
