TYR Sport was established in 1985 in Huntington Beach, California, by Joseph DiLorenzo and Olympic bronze medalist Steve Furniss. Initially focused on competitive swimwear, the brand was named after the Norse god of warriors and quickly became a staple in the aquatic sports world. In recent years, TYR has significantly expanded its product line to include high-performance athletic footwear, specifically targeting the CrossFit and weightlifting communities.

While the brand's design and engineering are headquartered in the United States, manufacturing is outsourced to specialized footwear facilities, primarily located in Vietnam. This allows the brand to maintain technical standards for their performance shoes, such as the CXT-1 Trainer and L-1 Lifter, which are used by elite athletes globally.
