Tecate beer

Tecate is one of Mexico's most iconic beer brands, originally founded in 1944 in the town of Tecate, Baja California, by Alberto Aldrete. It holds a significant place in brewing history as the first beer in Mexico to be sold in a can, a move that helped it gain massive popularity across the country and eventually internationally.

While the brand maintains deep Mexican roots and is still primarily brewed in Mexico to preserve its authentic flavor profile, its ownership has transitioned through corporate mergers. In 2010, the Dutch brewing giant Heineken N.V. acquired the beer operations of Fomento Económico Mexicano, S.A.B. de C.V. (FEMSA), which included the Tecate brand. Today, Tecate is managed as a key global brand within the Heineken portfolio, benefiting from an extensive international distribution network while remaining a symbol of Northern Mexican pride.
