Discover where a brand or product originates
Goodreads is the world's largest site for readers and book recommendations, serving as a social cataloging platform where users can search a database of books, annotations, quotes, and reviews. The brand was founded in December 2006 by Elizabeth Khuri Chandler and Otis Chandler, launching officially in early 2007. It quickly became a central hub for the literary community, allowing authors and readers to interact directly.
In 2013, the platform underwent a significant ownership change when it was acquired by the global e-commerce giant Amazon. Since the acquisition, Goodreads has been integrated into the Amazon ecosystem, particularly with the Kindle e-reader series, allowing for seamless syncing of reading progress and reviews. While it remains a distinct community-focused platform, its technical infrastructure and corporate governance are managed by its parent company in the United States.
