Morrisons, officially known as Wm Morrison Supermarkets Limited, is one of the largest supermarket chains in the United Kingdom. Founded by William Morrison in 1899, it began as a simple egg and butter stall in Bradford. Over the decades, it grew into a national powerhouse, distinguished by its unique vertical integration; unlike many competitors, Morrisons owns many of its own food processing plants and farms, allowing it to produce a significant portion of its fresh meat, fish, and bakery products internally.

In 2021, the company underwent a major ownership shift when it was acquired by the American private equity firm Clayton, Dubilier & Rice (CD&R) following a high-profile bidding war. This transition took the company from being publicly listed on the London Stock Exchange to private ownership. Despite the change in parent company ownership to the United States, Morrisons remains deeply rooted in British retail culture, maintaining its headquarters in Bradford and continuing to focus on its 'Market Street' concept and British-sourced fresh produce.
