TAB (Tvornica Akumulatorskih Baterija) was established in 1965 as a subsidiary of Rudnik Mežica (Lead Mine Mežica) in a region of Slovenia where lead-related activities have been documented for over 350 years. Over the decades, it has grown from a local manufacturer into a global producer of high-quality energy storage solutions, including starter batteries for vehicles, industrial traction batteries, and stationary battery systems. The company is renowned for its 'TAB' and 'Topla' brands, which are exported worldwide.
Manufacturing remains centered in Europe, with primary production facilities located in Mežica and Črna na Koroškem, Slovenia, as well as a significant factory in Probištip, North Macedonia. These facilities utilize advanced lead-acid technology as well as modern lithium-ion developments to meet the demands of the global automotive and industrial sectors. Ownership remains largely private and independent, rooted in its Slovenian heritage.
Today, TAB d.d. stands as one of the few large-scale independent battery manufacturers in Europe. It maintains a strong market position by controlling the full lifecycle of its products, including a recycling plant that ensures a sustainable circular economy for lead, reinforcing its status as a key player in the European energy storage market.
