The brand originated in 2004 when it was co-founded by Benedict Stephens and Ali Parsa, initially operating with a unique partnership model intended to bring clinician-led management to the healthcare sector. Over the years, the company expanded significantly, notably through the acquisition of BMI Healthcare in 2020, which vastly increased its network of hospitals across the UK.

In 2023, the ownership of the group shifted significantly when PureHealth, the largest integrated healthcare network in the Middle East, entered into an agreement to acquire the company. As of 2024, the ultimate ownership rests with PureHealth, which is headquartered in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. While the clinical services are delivered exclusively within the UK, the brand is now part of a global healthcare conglomerate aimed at consolidating international medical expertise.
