Circle K is a globally recognized retail brand that began its journey in 1951 when Fred Hervey purchased three Kay's Food Stores in El Paso, Texas, United States. The brand grew rapidly through the 20th century, becoming a staple of the American convenience store landscape before expanding internationally through both corporate ownership and franchising models.
In 2003, the brand underwent a significant transition when it was acquired by the Canadian multinational Alimentation Couche-Tard. Since then, Circle K has become the flagship international brand for Couche-Tard, absorbing several other local brands like Statoil, Mac's, and Kangaroo Express to create a unified global identity. Today, Circle K operates thousands of locations across North America, Europe, and Asia, offering fuel, snacks, and private-label beverages like the Polar Pop and Froster.
While the brand originated in the United States, its ultimate corporate home is now in Canada. The company maintains a massive supply chain network, sourcing products and manufacturing private-label goods in multiple countries to serve its diverse international markets.
