Maredsous is a renowned Belgian abbey beer brand that originates from the Maredsous Abbey, a Benedictine monastery founded in 1872 in Denée, Belgium. While the beer is steeped in monastic tradition, the brewing process was commercialized through a licensing agreement to ensure consistency and widespread availability. Since 1963, the beer has been brewed under license to the strict standards set by the monks.
Today, the beer is produced by Brouwerij Duvel Moortgat, a prominent Belgian family-owned brewery. The Maredsous range, including the Brune, Blonde, and Tripel varieties, is celebrated for its authentic fermentation process and its adherence to the traditional Benedictine recipes. The ultimate ownership remains with Duvel Moortgat, which manages the global distribution and production from its headquarters in Puurs-Sint-Amands, Belgium.
