While the brand has deep Canadian roots and continues to manufacture its products across a network of bakeries throughout Canada to ensure local freshness, its ownership has transitioned through several major corporate hands. For many years, it was a flagship brand of Canada Bread Company, Limited. In 2014, Canada Bread was acquired by Grupo Bimbo, a Mexican multinational food company that is currently the largest bakery company in the world. Today, Dempster's operates as a primary brand under the Bimbo Canada umbrella, maintaining its Canadian identity while benefiting from the global supply chain and resources of its Mexican parent company.
