Goldfish crackers are a popular brand of fish-shaped snack crackers known for their unique shape and variety of flavors. The product was originally inspired by a snack created in Switzerland in the 1950s by Oscar J. Kambly at the Swiss biscuit manufacturer Kambly. He created them for his wife, whose astrological sign was Pisces.
In 1962, Margaret Rudkin, the founder of Pepperidge Farm, discovered the snack while visiting Switzerland and introduced it to the United States market. Since then, Goldfish have become a staple of the American snack industry, particularly popular among children and families for their 'snack that smiles back' marketing campaign.
Today, the brand is owned by the Campbell Soup Company, which acquired Pepperidge Farm in 1961. Manufacturing is primarily concentrated in the United States, notably at Pepperidge Farm facilities in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Utah, while the brand maintains a significant global presence through Campbell's international distribution networks.
