In 2021, a significant shift in ownership occurred when Empire Company Limited, the parent company of Sobeys, acquired a majority stake (51%) in Longo’s. Despite this acquisition, the brand continues to operate with a degree of autonomy, maintaining the Longo family's involvement in leadership. Today, the brand represents a premium grocery offering within the larger Empire Company portfolio, which is one of Canada's largest food retailers headquartered in Stellarton, Nova Scotia.
