Toronto Star Newspaper

The Toronto Star is one of Canada's most historically significant and widely circulated daily newspapers. Originally founded in 1892 as the Evening Star, and later becoming the Toronto Daily Star, it was established by a group of striking printers and writers led by Horatio Clarence Hocken. The publication has a long-standing tradition of covering local Toronto news, national Canadian politics, and international affairs, often associated with the 'Atkinson Principles' which emphasize social justice and progressive values.

For over a century, the newspaper was controlled by the Atkinson and Hindmarsh families through Torstar Corporation. In a major shift in the Canadian media landscape in 2020, Torstar was acquired by NordStar Capital LP, a private investment firm. This transition moved the paper from a publicly traded entity to private ownership. Today, the Toronto Star continues its operations as the flagship publication of the Star Metropolitan Media group, maintaining its primary editorial and production base in Ontario, Canada.
