MicroG Mobile Services

MicroG is an open-source and free-software implementation of proprietary Google libraries and services for the Android platform. It was created to allow users of Android devices to use Google-dependent apps without actually installing Google's closed-source Play Services, enhancing privacy and reducing battery consumption. The project is community-driven and does not have a single manufacturing location, as its code is developed by contributors worldwide.

While MicroG mimics services created by Google (an American company), the project itself is an independent, non-commercial initiative. It is not owned by a corporation but is managed by the developer community, led by its founder Marvin Wißfeld. The software is widely used in privacy-focused Android distributions like LineageOS for MicroG and /e/OS, maintaining a decentralized ownership structure focused on user digital sovereignty.
