Exide is one of the world's largest producers and recyclers of lead-acid batteries. The brand has a heritage dating back to the late 19th century in the United States, originally founded as the Electric Storage Battery Company by W.W. Gibbs. Today, the brand is managed under Exide Technologies (primarily in the Americas) and Exide Group (in Europe and other international markets).

Manufacturing takes place globally, with major facilities located in the United States, India, and several European countries including Italy, Poland, and Spain. The specific AGM Ready line for motorcycles is widely distributed across the European market and is known for its high-performance Absorbent Glass Mat technology.

Following corporate restructurings, the European and International operations were acquired by an affiliate of the private equity firm Evergreen Coast Capital, an affiliate of Elliott Investment Management, separating them from the US-based Exide Technologies entity. As of 2024 and beyond, the brand remains a global leader in energy storage solutions for the automotive and industrial sectors.
