LUMA Energy utility services

LUMA Energy is the private operator of Puerto Rico's power grid, responsible for the transmission and distribution of electricity across the island. The company was formed specifically to modernize and operate the aging electrical infrastructure in Puerto Rico under a long-term contract with the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA).

The brand is a joint venture between two major energy and infrastructure firms: ATCO Ltd. from Canada and Quanta Services from the United States. While the service is localized to Puerto Rico, the ultimate ownership and corporate management reside within these parent companies based in North America. LUMA commenced its operations in June 2021 as part of a significant shift toward the privatization of public services on the island.
