Hemelinger Malz is a traditional German non-alcoholic malt beverage with a rich history rooted in the Bremen region. The brand originated in Hemelingen, a district of Bremen, where the Hemelinger Actien Brauerei was established in 1878. For decades, it was a staple of the local brewing scene before ownership transitioned through various industry consolidations.
Today, the brand is owned by the Getreide- und Malz-Veredelung (GMV) GmbH, which is part of the larger Getränke Gruppe Hövelmann based in Duisburg. Production of Hemelinger beers and malts is currently carried out by the Hofbrauhaus Wolters in Braunschweig under a contract brewing arrangement. This ensures that while the ownership is based in North Rhine-Westphalia, the manufacturing remains in Northern Germany, preserving its regional identity as a classic 'Bremen' drink.
