Boots is one of the most iconic British brands, founded by John Boot in Nottingham, England, in 1849. Originally an herbal medicine shop, it grew into a massive pharmacy and retail chain known for its own-brand health and beauty products, including the 'Smile' and 'Everyday' oral care ranges. The brand has a long history of British manufacturing, particularly in its Beeston site, though many of its plastic hygiene products like toothbrushes are now sourced through global supply chains.
In terms of ownership, the brand underwent significant changes in the 21st century. After a merger with Alliance UniChem in 2006 to form Alliance Boots, it was later acquired by the American company Walgreens in 2014, forming Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA). WBA remains the ultimate owner as of 2024, maintaining the brand's heavy presence in the UK while managing it from a global headquarters in the United States.
