Cobra Beer was founded in 1989 by Karan Bilimoria and Arjun Reddy. The brand was originally created with the intention of developing a smoother, less gassy lager that would pair perfectly with Indian cuisine. While it was first brewed in Bangalore, India, the brand gained massive popularity in the United Kingdom, leading to a shift in primary production to the UK through partnerships with local breweries.

In 2009, Cobra Beer entered into a joint venture with the global brewing giant Molson Coors, which now holds a majority stake in the company. Today, Cobra Beer is produced in various locations around the world to serve global markets, including major facilities in the UK and India. The brand remains a staple in curry houses and restaurants globally, maintaining its heritage as a premium beer designed for food pairing.
