VIPS is a renowned Spanish restaurant and retail chain that has become a staple of modern casual dining in Spain. Originally founded in 1969 by the Arango family in Madrid, the brand was pioneering in introducing a hybrid concept that combined a restaurant with a shop offering international press, books, and gourmet products. Over the decades, it expanded into a massive chain known for its diverse menu, ranging from sandwiches and salads to American-style burgers and Mediterranean dishes.

In terms of ownership, the brand underwent a significant transition when Alsea, a Mexican multi-brand restaurant operator, acquired the Sigla Group (parent of VIPS) in late 2018. This acquisition consolidated VIPS into one of the largest restaurant portfolios in the Spanish-speaking world. While the food is prepared locally in Spain across its hundreds of locations, the ultimate strategic management and ownership reside with Alsea, headquartered in Mexico City.
