Rega Planar turntable

Rega Research Ltd. is a renowned British manufacturer of high-end audio equipment, most famous for its 'Planar' series of turntables. Founded in 1973 by Roy Gandy and Tony Relph, the company was born out of a desire to produce hi-fi components that offered exceptional sound quality at fair prices. The name 'Rega' is a portmanteau of its founders' surnames.

Since its inception, Rega has maintained a strong commitment to local manufacturing. All Rega Planar turntables, ranging from the entry-level Planar 1 to the high-performance Planar 10, are designed and hand-assembled in their custom-built facility in Southend-on-Sea, England. This focus on domestic production allows the brand to maintain strict quality control and ensure that every component, from the tonearm to the plinth, meets their specific engineering standards.

Ownership of the company has remained remarkably stable. Rega Research Ltd. continues to be an independent, privately-owned British company. Roy Gandy remains the primary owner and lead designer, ensuring that the brand preserves its original philosophy of minimalist design and technical excellence without the influence of larger multinational conglomerates.
