The Lexus UX (User Explorer) represents the luxury entry-point for the Lexus crossover lineup. First introduced as a concept in 2016 and entering production in 2018, the UX was designed to provide a premium driving experience within a compact urban footprint, specifically targeting modern city dwellers. The vehicle is built on the Global Architecture – Compact (GA-C) platform, which it shares with other popular models in the group, emphasizing agility and structural rigidity.
While Lexus operates manufacturing facilities globally, the UX is primarily manufactured in Japan at the Miyata plant in Miyawaka, Fukuoka. This facility is renowned for its high craftsmanship standards, often referred to as Takumi craftsmanship, which is a hallmark of the Lexus brand. The production process integrates advanced robotics with meticulous human inspection to ensure the high-quality finish expected of the luxury segment.
Lexus is the luxury vehicle division of the Japanese automaker Toyota. It was founded in 1989 following the success of the 'F1' project, which aimed to create a world-class luxury sedan. Today, the brand remains under the ultimate ownership of Toyota Motor Corporation, headquartered in Toyota City, Japan. As one of the world's largest automotive manufacturers, Toyota manages Lexus as a separate premium entity while leveraging shared research, development, and logistical resources to maintain its competitive edge in the global luxury market.
