Advil is one of the world's most recognized brands of ibuprofen, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for pain relief and fever reduction. The brand was originally developed and launched by American Home Products, which later became Wyeth. Over the decades, it became a household name in North America and beyond for its effectiveness in treating headaches, muscle aches, and minor arthritis pain.
Manufacturing for Advil primarily occurs in large-scale pharmaceutical facilities in Puerto Rico, USA, which serves as a major hub for global supply. However, production may also take place in other specialized facilities depending on the regional market.
Ownership of the brand has transitioned through major corporate mergers. After Pfizer acquired Wyeth in 2009, Advil became part of Pfizer's consumer healthcare portfolio. In 2019, Pfizer and GSK (GlaxoSmithKline) combined their consumer healthcare businesses into a joint venture. This entity eventually spun off in 2022 to become Haleon, an independent global leader in consumer health headquartered in the United Kingdom. Haleon now manages the brand's global operations and distribution.
